The set of cards includes 75 words of popular contemporary discourses is a response to the contemporary art world. Drawing research from Wikipedia’s “Contemporary Art” entry, the article highlighted in ArtReview’s 2022 and 2023 “Power 100,” art terms on Tate, popular themes in art memes shared by “Freeze Magazine” Instagram account, and my own interests as an art practitioner. These words encompass the vocabulary commonly mentioned in the discourse of contemporary art and also include terms related to the art industry and art market. Tarot card reading is a form of cartomancy whereby practitioners use tarot cards to purportedly gain insight into the past, present or future. They formulate a question, then draw cards to interpret them for this end. This set of cards serves as a unique tool, akin to the tarot cards in divination, allowing practitioners to gain deeper insight into the intricate web of contemporary art discourse. By aligning these cards, artists, curators, critics and amateurs can navigate the ever-shifting landscape of contemporary art, unveiling the profound influence and intricate relationships that these concepts have on the discourse.
